Wellmont Health System’s orthopedic residency program is a five-year residency and training program that provides orthopedic trainees with the clinical and surgical knowledge necessary for all aspects of orthopedic surgery. The Wellmont Orthopedic Residency Program strives to provide a maximum level of competence, enabling residents to demonstrate the highest ideals of the orthopedic profession in community and academic settings. The primary objective of Wellmont’s orthopedic residency program is to graduate skilled orthopedic surgeons with superior operative expertise who possess critical skills needed to make the best treatment decisions for orthopedic patients. Under the guidance of the orthopedic residency program faculty, this goal is attained through a carefully designed educational program that encompasses extensive hands-on orthopedic experience, physical examinations and diagnosis of orthopedic patients. Wellmont’s orthopedic residency program also promotes progressively increasing levels of responsibility and autonomy in both operative and non-operative management of orthopedic patients.
The mission of the Wellmont Orthopedic Residency Program is to provide a high quality training experience that prepares our resident physicians for comprehensive general or sub-specialty orthopedics. This goal is achieved through a structured clinical and didactic educational curriculum that follows nationally established best practices as well as the commitment of faculty and their institutions to this teaching program. The culmination of this mission is to have imparted the orthopedic knowledge and skills to the trainee to achieve the highest level of care for their future patients.
