Nursing Externship Program
Wellmont Health System's Nursing Externship Program builds nursing knowledge in a practice arena. A preceptor/preceptee relationship fosters professional role development and facilitates the transition from nursing education to nursing practice. This program lets you earn while you learn.
Qualifications and deadline for application
To qualify you must be a student in good standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and submit a completed application, your official school transcripts and two letters of recommendation from your teachers before the application deadline of March 15. Letters of recommendation must be in a sealed envelope. Final candidates will be selected based upon a successful interview. Information may be submitted using one of the following methods.
- Mail transcripts and faculty reference forms to Wellmont Health System, P.O. Box 238, Kingsport, TN 37660, ATTN: Nurse Recruiter.
- The official transcript may be faxed directly from the college to the nurse recruiter at (423) 224-6419.
To get started with your online application, choose Job Search and apply for the position of Summer Nurse Extern. Online applications are posted one month prior to the application deadline.
Timing of nursing externship
The extern program takes place the summer prior to RN graduation. After completion of the summer extern program, opportunities for employment as a nurse extern may be available.
