Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

Intensity modulated radiation therapy—or IMRT—is one of the most innovative tools available to medical oncologists in the nation today. We currently offer this service at Holston Valley Medical Center, Bristol Regional Medical Center and Southwest Virginia Cancer Center.

How does IMRT work?

IMRT allows our physicians to “sculpt” radiation to the contours of a tumor, which spares the surrounding healthy tissue. The added precision and accuracy of this state-of-the-art treatment means fewer side effects and higher cure rates.
