Cardiac Rehabilitation
At Wellmont, rehabilitation begins while you’re hospitalized and continues even after you leave our facilities. Our nationally accredited cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs at Bristol Regional Medical Center and Holston Valley Medical Center will help you get back on your feet after a heart attack, heart surgery or other procedure. And we’re proud to now offer many of these same services at the Southwest Virginia Outpatient Center in Norton. Learn more about the phases of cardiac rehabilitation:
Phase I - Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation by physician referral
Designed to reduce risk factors for heart disease. At hospitals in our Regional Heartcare Network, registered nurses and exercise physiologists provide monitored activity and individual instruction for patients with heart disease or who have experienced a heart attack, coronary artery bypass surgery, or balloon angioplasty. We also provide guidelines on a personalized exercise program during recovery.
Phase II - Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation by physician referral
We provide a personalized exercise program for up to a three-month period through monitored (EKG) exercise sessions. This program improves your ability to exercise and progress to a heart- healthy lifestyle. We also make educational opportunities available to you and your family to help with topics such as smoking, weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and stress management. Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is provided from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Phase III - Supervised exercise program
Designed to help with cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, weight loss and stress management. We reinforce health issues and maintaining healthy lifestyle behaviors.
Additional rehabilitation services
We also provide additional inpatient and outpatient aftercare rehabilitation services, such as support groups and screenings, that have been accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
