  • Heart Institute Opens Convenient Office In Elizabethton For Residents Of Carter, Johnson Counties

    Building on the superior cardiovascular care it has delivered to patients in Carter and Johnson counties, the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute has opened an office in Elizabethton. The heart institute is now seeing patients in the Elizabethton Medical Care facility at 1500 W. Elk Ave., Suite 102. Drs. Harold Alison and Joseph Bailey, who are board-certified cardiologists, are providing consults and follow-up care in a convenient setting for patients in these two communities.

    Wellmont CVA Heart Institute Opens Office In Wytheville, Va.; Dr. Don Anderson Joins Practice

    The Wellmont CVA Heart Institute's delivery of the highest-quality care in the region continues to expand with the opening of another office and another physician joining the practice. The heart institute's 14th office - the seventh in Southwest Virginia - opened Monday, April 15, at 360 Virginia Ave. And Dr. Don Anderson, the board-certified cardiologist who has seen patients in Wythe and Bland counties since 2009, is joining the heart institute.

    An electrocardiogram – or EKG – is a well-established test for gathering critical heart data, but it could be better understood by some medical professionals who perform them. That is the premise of “EKGs for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant,” a new book by Maureen Knechtel, a physician assistant with the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute in Kingsport.

But this executive of Alpha Natural Resources could not outrun family history and bad luck when he was suddenly confronted with a stark reality in 2009. Cardiologists with the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute discovered a blockage of more than 90 percent in one of his heart arteries.
