Neurologic & Nerve Disorders
Each person’s body contains a vast neurological network – consisting of the brain, spine and central nervous system – that makes diagnosing and treating neurologic and nerve disorders an extremely complex area of medicine. What is Alzheimer’s disease?
Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that can seriously affect a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. It is one of the most common forms of dementia as people age. Initially, this progressive disease affects areas of the brain that control thought, memory and language.
Scientists and researchers are learning more about Alzheimer’s disease every day, although a “cure” has not yet been found. Wellmont’s neurology experts can, however, offer a range of treatment options to help patients and their families cope with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a complex neurological disorder that causes seizures in the body. Epileptic seizures can range from a momentary disruption of a person’s senses to violent convulsions and loss of consciousness. Wellmont’s experienced neurologists treat patients with epilepsy using a variety of methods, including seizure medications, surgery, diet and electro-stimulation.
