Regional Cancer Network Physician Partners

We believe in fighting cancer as a team. That’s why the Regional Cancer Network consists of a partnership between our physician-led Wellmont hospitals and leading physician practices. Working together—medical and radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, hematologists, gastroenterologists, urologic oncologists, interventional radiologists, pathologists and surgeons representing a wide range of specialties—we develop a treatment plan that meets your needs. We treat and manage cancers of all kinds at the following facilities:

Orthopedic oncology
Because bone and soft-tissue tumors are rare, they require treatment by an orthopedic oncologist with special expertise in this area. Orthopedic oncologist Dr. Mark Russ, board-certified in orthopedic surgery, specializes in the treatment of adult and pediatric bone and soft-tissue (muscle) tumors, sarcomas, and metastatic carcinomas of the extremities, pelvis, spine and sacrum. Dr. Russ practices with Lonesome Pine Orthopedics in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Urologic oncology
A urologic oncologist specializes in assessing and treating bladder, prostate and testicular cancers. Dr. James Herman, certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Urology, provides this service at Holston Valley Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the Baylor College School of Medicine and currently practices with Urology Associates of Kingsport.

Surgical oncology
Surgical oncologists perform operations to diagnose and treat cancer. Dr. John Ehrenfried, certified by the American Board of Surgery, provides this specialized service at Holston Valley Medical Center. He completed a fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and currently practices with Surgical Associates of Kingsport.
