Wellmont’s member hospitals are committed to preventing, diagnosing and treating children’s diseases. Bristol Regional Medical Center and Lonesome Pine Hospital offer comprehensive pediatrics programs, and the Holston Valley Regional Children’s Hospital and Center is a regional leader in specialized care for kids, including perinatology, neonatal intensive care and pediatric intensive care.
Holston Valley Regional Children’s Hospital and Center has established an alliance with Knoxville’s East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to further enhance children’s health care in our region. East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is the only state-designated comprehensive regional pediatric center in East Tennessee and one of only four such centers in the state. Through Holston Valley’s new alliance, nearly 20 board-certified pediatric specialists and sub-specialists from the Knoxville hospital have established an office at Holston Valley to see patients close to home. Each year, 2,500 children from the Tri-Cities travel two hours or more to Knoxville to receive care at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Now, health care is closer to home for many of those kids.
A new partnership with Holston Medical Group has placed pediatric hospitalists at the bedside of young patients at the Holston Valley Regional Children’s Hospital and Center. The board-certified pediatricians of Holston Medical Group are providing round-the-clock coverage for pediatric patients at the children’s hospital.
As part of Project Platinum, the ongoing $100 million renovation and expansion of Holston Valley, the Holston Valley Regional Children’s Hospital and Center in 2008 will move to a new home in a state-of-the-art hospital within a hospital that will be housed in a new patient tower now under construction.
Wellmont Health System is also a member of the Children’s Miracle Network, a national organization of nearly 200 leading children’s hospitals nationwide. To date, more than 11,000 Tri-Cities individuals and businesses have donated in excess of $7 million to support local children’s health care through the Children’s Miracle Network. All money raised locally stays in the local community to support Wellmont hospitals and deserving community organizations that meet kids’ needs.
