Wellmont Health System provides educational and medical resources to people with diabetes in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia so they can learn about their disease and control it.
Through our Diabetes Treatment Center, diabetics learn to manage the disease through self-management classes which provide information about diabetes and diabetes management. The classes help people with diabetes understand the disease, learn how to monitor their blood glucose, recognize the importance of nutrition, exercise and foot care. Classes are taught by the center’s specially trained registered nurses, dieticians and certified diabetes educators.
Diabetes Treatment Center offices are located at Bristol Regional Medical Center and Holston Valley Medical Center. Outreach programs are also available at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Hawkins County Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Hospital.
Wellmont’s Diabetes Treatment Center is the region’s only hospital-based diabetes program accredited by the American Diabetes Association.
