Ed Roop Named Chairman For Mountain View Regional, Lonesome
Pine Boards; New Board Members Named In Wellmont’s Community Hospital Division
Ed Roop, vice president of Farmers and Miners Bank in Wise,
Virginia, has been named chairman of the combined board for Mountain
View Regional Medical Center and Lonesome
A longtime board member, Roop succeeds Skip Skinner, whose
term expired. Skinner will continue to serve on this board and the Wellmont Health System board.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be entrusted with the
chairmanship for Lonesome Pine and Mountain View Regional’s board because these
hospitals contribute significantly to the health and well-being of Wise County
residents and surrounding communities,” Roop said. “As we build on the
strengths of these outstanding hospitals to achieve a sustainable model of care
for the future, our board is focused on meeting the needs of patients we are
privileged to serve.”
In addition to sitting on the board, Roop most recently
served as chairman of the Lonesome Pine Hospital Community Fund. This fund has
made significant contributions to organizations that make a positive difference
in the county’s quality of life. In June, the fund contributed $200,000 to
assist in enhancements to Bullitt Park in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
In addition to the transition in chairman from Skinner to
Roop, new members have joined those who will continue their service on the
boards of directors for Wellmont’s community hospitals.
Dr. Kevin Allred, Danny Lambert, Dr. James Raj and John
Schoolcraft have joined the combined board for Mountain View Regional and
Dr. Allred is a highly respected dentist who operates a
practice in Big Stone Gap, and Lambert is a retired field agent for the
Virginia Department of Taxation. Schoolcraft owns Schoolcraft Consulting and is
a member of the Wise County Board of Education. Dr.
James Raj is a medical doctor who practices with Wellmont
Medical Associates Ear,
Nose & Throat.
The other new board member in the community hospital
division is Dr.
Mihir Patel, a hospitalist with Wellmont Medical Associates. A medical
doctor, he will serve on the board at Hawkins
County Memorial Hospital, where he is also a member of the medical staff.
Several members have rotated off hospital boards in the
community hospital division. They are Drs. Chris
Basham and Michael
Vacco, M. Blake Wilson Jr. and Martha Spurlock from the Lonesome Pine and
Mountain View board, Dr. Jose
Velasco from the Hawkins County Memorial board and Nikki Reed from the Hancock
County Hospital board. Drs. Basham and Vacco are medical doctors.
