Bristol Regional Board Names John Vann Chairman, Adds New Members
John Vann, business management consultant at The Summit Companies, has been elected chairman of Bristol Regional Medical Center's board of directors.
Vann previously served as the executive vice president for corporate development at Chiltern International Inc. He was responsible globally for supporting the company's growth and development efforts through strategic relationships and acquisitions. He also oversaw marketing and business development.
The new chairman said he welcomes the opportunity to help Bristol Regional deliver superior health care with compassion to its patients.
"I look forward to leading such a dedicated and experienced board that is committed to enhancing the patient experience," Vann said. "Bristol Regional is the premier healthcare provider in the community, and the hospital and its board take seriously their roles in serving the needs of our friends and neighbors in the area. It is an honor to lead the board of the city's largest employer and for the hospital to be an important part of Bristol's economic vitality."
Greg Neal, Bristol Regional's president, said Vann is a perfect fit for this role.
"John will provide valuable guidance to ensure Bristol Regional serves the needs of its patients," Neal said. "We are grateful for his leadership and know our hospital will benefit from his efforts and that of the other board members. They will work in collaboration with all our physicians and co-workers, who are dedicated to the well-being of our patients."
Three new members have joined Bristol Regional's board, which guides the hospital and provides community leadership. They are family medicine physician Charles Bolick, MD; general surgeon Glenn Birkitt, MD; and anesthesiologist Joseph Nounou, MD.
Ted Wood, a retired business executive, has been elected vice chairman and Wayne Estes, president of The Best Parking Space, has been elected secretary.
Members rotating off the board are Jill Harrison, Alpha Natural Resources' coal sales counsel; general surgeon Nelson Gwaltney, MD; radiologist Bill Johnstone, MD; and cardiothoracic surgeon Bill Messerschmidt, MD.
"Our departing board members deserve commendation for their excellent service to Bristol Regional," Vann said. "Our hospital has received a lot of recognition in recent years, and their loyal support has helped make that happen. We are also excited to welcome Dr. Bolick, Dr. Birkitt and Dr. Nounou to our board as they will help continue the tradition of excellence delivered every day at Bristol Regional."
