Sharon Sword Promoted To Director Of Case Management At
Holston Valley Medical Center
KINGSPORT – Sharon Sword, an innovative nursing professional
for 27 years at Holston
Valley Medical Center, has been promoted to serve as the hospital’s
director of case management.
Sword, who was serving as interim director, now provides
leadership and vision to the case management department, with objectives of
reducing length of stay, coordinating care and facilitating transitions to
post-acute settings. She will also manage the department’s daily operations,
including the budget.
“This is an important position that ensures patients receive
the care they need as they begin healing and moving successfully to the next
step in their lives,” said Debbie Blevins, Wellmont
Health System’s executive director of case management. “Sharon is an
exemplary leader who will enhance the patient care experience at Holston
Valley. We’re pleased someone of her caliber is leading our team there.”
During her career, Sword has excelled in various levels of
nursing, including the medical-surgical and step down units. She also served as
a charge nurse for many years.
For the last eight years, she has worked in case management,
the last four of which have been in leadership.
Sword graduated from East Tennessee State University with an
associate’s degree in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in health education, with
an emphasis in patient education.
“It’s a privilege to be entrusted with this new position,”
Sword said. “Having worked at Holston Valley my entire career, I am familiar
with the needs of our patients and have worked extensively with a variety of
excellent caregivers. I look forward to continuing to elevate the quality of
care in our hospital.”
