Teresa HarperTeresa Harper, Licensed Social Worker, Joins Wellmont Medical Associates' Rogersville Practice

Wellmont Medical Associates has expanded mental health services in Hawkins County. Teresa Harper, a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 25 years of experience, has joined Wellmont Medical Associates in Rogersville.

Harper will work alongside Dr. Liliana Murillo, a board-certified internist who provides both physical and psychiatric care for patients. Together with Dr. Murillo, Harper will provide evaluations and therapeutic interventions for patients with anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, Harper will also help patients obtain nonmedical resources so they can adapt to living with a mental health disorder.

"By adding Teresa to our team of dedicated healthcare professionals, we've greatly enhanced our continuum of care at our Rogersville location," said Kim Onesko, vice president and chief administrative officer of Wellmont Medical Associates. "It's vitally important that residents of Hawkins County have convenient access to the high-quality behavioral health care that Teresa and Dr. Murillo provide."

Harper has an extensive background providing clinical services for residents of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. During her career, she has provided substance abuse counseling, home-based counseling services and geriatric psychiatry, and she has operated a private practice where she worked with residents of several local nursing facilities.

Additionally, Harper has served as an adjunct instructor and field instructor for several local colleges and universities including East Tennessee State University, Walters State Community College, Virginia Intermont College, Virginia Highlands Community College and the University of Virginia-Wise.

This isn't Harper's first venture with Wellmont Health System. Previously, she served as director of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric social work at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

"I'm so happy to be back working with the people of Hawkins County and Wellmont Medical Associates," Harper said.  "I look forward to working with Dr. Murillo to provide superior behavioral health services."

Harper has an undergraduate degree from Tusculum College, a master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a candidate for a doctorate in behavioral health from Arizona State University.
