Dr. Kristen Yost Joins Wellmont Medical Associates, Is Passionate About Helping Patients Improve Health
Yost has joined Wellmont
Medical Associates as an internal medicine physician, bringing with
her a dedication to improve patients’ lives.
Dr. Yost will provide high-quality, compassionate care at
Suite 200E in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She will care for adults with
all types of general medical needs.
Most recently, Dr. Yost practiced in Eastern Kentucky, where
she saw first hand the prevalence of people with diabetes
who were insulin-dependent. She said Tennessee has similar characteristics.
“I really like focusing on how to use insulin appropriately
and how to integrate diet, weight loss and medicines to treat diabetes,” Dr.
Yost said. “It is rewarding to see my patients meet their goals with their
blood sugar and prevent lifelong illnesses, including diabetic neuropathy and
Dr. Yost considers herself a cheerleader for her patients by
encouraging them to take necessary steps to stay healthy or improve their
health. She advocates preventive measures, such as colonoscopies and
“I’m very caring with my patients,” she said. “I treat them
like they’re my own family. When they miss the mark – as all of them will at
some point – I’m there to say, ‘Get up, try again and keep on going.’ And I
cheer them on when they do well.”
Dr. Yost comes to Wellmont Medical Associates from Mountain
Comprehensive Health Corp. in Whitesburg, Ky., where she practiced for three
years and was affiliated with Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. She
graduated from the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine and then
completed her internship and residency.
Combs, chief executive medical officer of Wellmont Medical
Associates, said he is excited Dr. Yost is bringing her skill set to Bristol.
“We’re looking forward to Dr. Yost’s contributions to our
region,” he said. “Her focus on her patients and desire to see them succeed
will provide support that is crucial to their success. She is deeply committed
to her profession and will be an asset for Wellmont Medical Associates as we
continue developing care models to meet the needs of healthcare reform.”
The apple didn’t fall far from the tree when Dr. Yost was
deciding her career path.
“The reason I wanted to become a physician is because my
grandfather is a lab director,” she said. “When I was a little girl, I would
always go to the lab with him and I would look through the microscope. I saw
all the doctors in the clinic, and I really admired them and what they did for
their patients. As I got older, I decided I wanted to become a doctor like
Dr. Yost said she chose to become part of Wellmont Health
System because of the care it shows patients, physicians and co-workers. She
said she was also impressed with her innovative partners in the Bristol office
– Drs. Jonathan Dixon, Fred Greear, Steven Hanor, David Thompson and John
Williams and nurse practitioner Priscilla Lowe.
“I just really felt at home with Wellmont, so that’s why I
decided to join Wellmont Medical Associates,” Dr. Yost said.
The practice, originally named Bristol Medical Associates,
was recently renamed Wellmont Medical Associates to reflect an enhanced
relationship between Wellmont Health System and integrated physicians. Created
earlier this year, Wellmont Medical Associates is a physician-led, professionally
managed organization that enables physicians to set the direction for patient
