Sallie Lively Joins Wellmont Medical Associates as Family Nurse Practitioner in Kingsport Practice

Sallie LivelySallie Lively, who has improved patients’ lives during her nearly 20 years in health care, has joined Wellmont Medical Associates as a family nurse practitioner.

Lively provides high-quality, compassionate care to patients in the office of Dr. Dan Carroll, a medical doctor who practices family medicine at 117 W. Sevier Ave., Suite 100. She also practices with family nurse practitioners Jill Fleming and Melissa Dawn Smith.

“Improving a patient’s quality of life happens through education,” Lively said. “When patients are armed with the right knowledge, they are empowered to take responsibility and be accountable for their actions and improve their outcomes.

“Patients should know that while it might seem impractical to come to the doctor’s office for 30 minutes or an hour, your health is really important. So if they take the time and learn valuable information about their health, they can add many years to their life.”

Lively has worked in various positions at Bristol Regional Medical Center during her career. She served as a clinical documentation specialist, coordinator of general vascular surgical services, a circulating nurse in the operating room and a nurse on the orthopedics and neurology floor.

Now, she will help patients as a nurse practitioner with a passion for preventive medicine. She said it is much easier to prevent medical issues from developing than to address myriad issues that arise once someone has an illness or disease.

“I became a nurse practitioner because I had a true love of science,” Lively said. “It spurred me to make a career change, but I also had a desire to help people. I’m really a people person.”

Dr. Stephen Combs, a medical doctor and chief executive medical officer of Wellmont Medical Associates, said Lively is an excellent addition to the organization.

“Sallie brings diverse experiences with patients that will help her tremendously as she treats a multitude of health issues in her new practice,” Dr. Combs said. “She is also working with an outstanding physician and many other terrific caregivers who are positively influencing their patients’ health. We’re pleased she has joined us.”

Lively has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in the same field, with a nurse practitioner concentration, from East Tennessee State University. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
