Dr. Jennifer Peters, Wellmont Medical AssociatesDr. Jennifer Peters Joins Wellmont Medical Associates As Family Medicine Physician

Dr. Jennifer Peters has joined Wellmont Medical Associates as a family medicine physician who views high-quality, compassionate health care as partnership with actively engaged patients.

Treating patients 12 and older, Dr. Peters will practice with Dr. Marta Wayt, who is an internal medicine physician, and nurse practitioner Brooke Gibson at 111 W. Stone Drive, Suite 110.

Dr. Peters said she likes to treat all aspects of health and enjoys the variety of care she delivers. But she developed a special interest in women’s health stemming from cases she witnessed early in her medical journey. She also enjoys working on sport medicine cases, which she attributes to her family’s involvement in athletics in the Caribbean, her native community.

“I really like to have a good professional relationship with my patients,” Dr. Peters said. “It works better when my patients take part in their own care. I usually educate them on important items about their health, but they need to be proactive in researching topics pertaining to them so we can discuss their health needs together. I also encourage them to follow through on recommendations with an action plan.”

Dr. Peters considers herself an investigator, who discovers why a patient is having difficulty and then creates a solution. She said she receives high marks for her listening skills, something she considers essential for a physician.

A graduate of St. George’s University in Grenada, Dr. Peters completed her residency in family medicine at ETSU Family Physicians of Bristol. Part of her residency included caring for patients at Bristol Regional Medical Center, which led to her choice to join Wellmont Medical Associates.

“I really enjoyed working with the attending physicians and specialists at Bristol Regional,” Dr. Peters said. “So when the opportunity arose for me to join Wellmont Medical Associates, I was happy to take it.”

She had practiced at Stone Mountain Health Services at the Konnarock Family Health Center since 2006 and at Holston Family Health Center since 2011. Both facilities are located in Damascus, Va.

Dr. Peters is board-certified in family medicine.  She is a member of the Christian Medical Dental Association, the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Southeast chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine.

“We are excited to have Dr. Peters bring her impeccable credentials to the broad range of care she will deliver,” said Dr. Stephen Combs, chief executive medical officer of Wellmont Medical Associates. “She and Dr. Wayt will provide an outstanding care experience for their patients and bolster the level of care we offer in Kingsport.”

Dr. Combs said Dr. Peters’ interest in sports medicine will dovetail with Wellmont Health System’s excellent program at Sullivan Center Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. Her passion for women’s health will complement the breadth of services Wellmont offers to improve their lives, he said.

Dr. Peters and Dr. Wayt’s practice was formerly known as Kingsport Medical Associates but was renamed Wellmont Medical Associates to reflect a growing partnership between Wellmont and its integrated physicians. Created earlier this year, Wellmont Medical Associates is a physician-led, professionally managed organization that enables physicians to set the direction for patient care.
