Dr. Pavan Karnati Joins Wellmont CVA Heart Institute In Collaboration With Clinch Valley Medical Center
Dr. Pavan Karnati, an interventional cardiologist, has
joined the Wellmont CVA
Heart Institute in collaboration with Clinch Valley Medical Center.
He will see patients in the hospital and at the heart
institute’s new office in Clinch Valley Medical Plaza, 6719 Gov. G.C. Perry
Hwy., Suite 2800, in Richlands.
The heart institute serves more than 5,000 patients in
Tazewell and Buchanan counties, and Dr. Karnati said the new office will enable
him to now treat them closer to home.
“I treat patients like they are my family, and I want to
make a difference in their lives,” Dr. Karnati said. “When I treat patients, I
use guidelines from the American College of Cardiology, which ensures that they
receive solid, evidence-based care.”
Dr. Karnati has specialized training to evaluate and treat
coronary and peripheral vascular disease. He will perform procedures such as
balloon angioplasty and stenting, which open blocked arteries.
He has the ability to use the femoral artery in the groin
and the radial artery in the wrist as the entry point in cardiac
catheterizations. Dr. Karnati also has training in managing patients before and
after a heart transplant.
A graduate of Guntur Medical College in India, Dr. Karnati
completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular
disease at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. He completed another
fellowship in heart failure at Boston University School of Medicine and VA
Boston Healthcare System in Boston.
His most recent fellowship was in interventional cardiology
at Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health System, both in Connecticut.
That has enabled him to perform interventional procedures in the coronary
arteries and peripheral vascular system.
Dr. Karnati is board-certified in cardiovascular disease,
