Region Generously Supports Children's Miracle Network Hospitals With $733,223 During 2012-13 Campaign

The future has brightened for children in the region seeking care at Wellmont Health System hospitals due to generous support from Children's Miracle Network Hospitals donors.

Local individuals and businesses contributed $733,223 during the 2012-13 Children's Miracle Network campaign. That is nearly $100,000 more than was generated in the 2011-12 campaign, when the total from Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia was $637,000.

"We are awestruck by the generosity of our friends and neighbors who improve the lives of children entrusted to our care," said Todd Norris, Wellmont's senior vice president of system advancement and Wellmont Foundation's president. "This financial support gives us the opportunity to enhance the high-quality care we deliver to children in our region."

Wellmont has been the Children's Miracle Network affiliate for Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for more than 25 years. The health system uses all money raised in this area to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for its pediatric departments, neonatal intensive care unit and emergency departments and to fund community partnerships that advance children's health.

Children's Miracle Network donations are raised throughout the year at multiple annual events in the region. These include the WXBQ and Electric 94.9 radiothon, the WJHL celebration, Dairy Queen's $1 cone day and Miracle Treat Day, IHOP's National Pancake Day and the Toys, Comic Books, Sports Cards and Collectibles Hobby Show. Other long-established successful components are pledges from Wellmont co-workers and relentless work by Walmart associates throughout the region.

Additional funds were generated from new events this year, such as East Tennessee State University students hosting a Dance Marathon.

The next opportunity to support Children's Miracle Network will be Saturday, June 22, during the Brinley Addington Hometown Throwdown concert at Domtar Park in Kingsport. The show starts at 5 p.m., when Addington will be joined by fellow artists Kristen Kelly, HanaLena, Brad Blackwell and Beth Snapp.

Tickets are available online at (click the link for giving) and at Action Athletics, Metro Travel, Jenkins Insurance, First Kingsport Credit Union and several Food City locations. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Children's Miracle Network.

"Through Children's Miracle Network donations, Wellmont has been able to make a palpable, life-saving difference for thousands of children in our region," Norris said. "Wellmont is grateful for this community spirit and thanks everyone who has donated or worked tirelessly on behalf of these children."
