Lonesome Pine Hospital creates new entrance for emergency department as construction progresses
BIG STONE GAP, Va. – A new, temporary entrance to the emergency department at Lonesome Pine Hospital will be used beginning next week to facilitate an expansion and improvement project at the hospital.
The new emergency department entrance for walk-in patients and emergency medical services personnel will be used beginning Wednesday, Oct. 10. The entrance will be located near the parking area between the hospital and the Lonesome Pine Medical Arts building, on the west side of the emergency department. Signage will be in place to help direct patients and medical personnel along the new route to the emergency department.
Check-in at the registration desk in the emergency department lobby will remain unchanged, and no patient services will be interrupted during construction.
The traditional ambulatory and ambulance entrance at the hospital will be closed as the hospital progresses with a $5 million expansion and improvement project that was outlined to the community in August. The investment will more than double the size of the emergency department, provide space for a new MRI, increase privacy for patients and create new day surgery patient rooms.
Visitors arriving for outpatient services such as X-rays and outpatient surgery will be able to enter from the hospital’s main lobby. Parking areas will be designated to make hospital access convenient.
