3/4/15 - Two fun and inspiring events at Bristol Regional Medical Center will give people valuable, lifesaving information about strokes and heart disease and a chance to maximize their health with a 5K run or walk around the campus. On Saturday, March 21, the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute and Bristol Regional’s Primary Stroke Center are hosting the first-ever Need for Speed Heart and Stroke Expo and Seconds Count 5K.
3/3/15 - The Lonesome Pine Hospital Community Fund continues to enhance health care quality in Southwest Virginia by making additional contributions to support the nursing programs at local colleges and Wellmont Health System hospitals. The community fund recently donated $20,000 to the University of Virginia’s College at Wise to assist the nursing school’s simulation lab.
2/20/15 - The Level I and Level II trauma centers of Holston Valley Medical Center and Bristol Regional Medical Center will partner again for Wellmont Health System's fourth annual Trauma and Critical Care Conference. The event will be held Friday, March 6, from 7:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Monarch Auditorium at Bristol Regional.
2/17/15 - Stacy Long, a nurse by training with a decade of experience as a medical professional, has been named director of surgical services at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Long most recently served as the hospital's assistant director of surgical services and previously was a charge nurse and staff nurse in that department.
2/16/15 - Loveland Hobson, a 17-year medical professional in the Tri-Cities, has been named system director of procurement for Wellmont Health System's supply chain department. Hobson will oversee the department's value analysis and buying teams, capital procurement, contracting and reporting. She begins her new role Tuesday, March 9.
2/14/15 - This Valentine’s Day, the Survive and Thrive cancer support group will celebrate its 28th year offering hope for patients, families and friends who are getting their lives back on track after cancer. “It’s about healing your heart and your soul and helping you find the new normal after cancer,” said Kathryn Visneski, oncology nurse specialist and coordinator of the group.
2/11/15 - People with a high risk of colon cancer can benefit from an upcoming event hosted by the Wellmont Cancer Institute and the Tennessee Cancer Coalition. The two groups will present the first-ever Tri-Cities Hereditary Colon Cancer Winter Seminar Monday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at Food City on Eastman Road.
2/10/15 - David Brash, a 27-year health care veteran and member of the Wellmont Health System leadership team for more than seven years, has been named president and CEO of Wellmont Medical Associates. Brash has served as interim president and CEO since October, and the change in his status is effective immediately.
2/10/15 - Patients at high risk of developing lung cancer now have additional tools for lifesaving detection from Wellmont Health System that will enable clinicians to identify cases even earlier.
To further combat one of the more prevalent medical issues in the region, the Wellmont Cancer Institute and Wellmont Medical Associates have jointly launched a lung nodule program.
