6/19/15 - Wellmont Health System is offering sports physicals for student-athletes at convenient locations throughout the region. These students can receive their physicals at Wellmont Urgent Care in Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol, Tennessee, as well as Abingdon and the extended hours clinic in Norton, Virginia.
6/17/15 - Wellmont’s osteopathic family medicine residency program, based in Southwest Virginia and launched in 2010, graduated four more physicians in a ceremony on June 16 at the Inn at Wise.
6/15/15 - To better provide the care patients need, two clinics in Uganda will receive donated ultrasound machines from Holston Valley Medical Center and Bristol Regional Medical Center.
6/11/15 - Many teenagers in the region donate blood to Marsh Regional Blood Center, which is giving back by helping further their educations. Nine local students earned $1,000 scholarships and five area high schools received grants.
6/11/15 - Borderline Billiards in downtown Bristol is hosting a billiards tournament on June 11 to improve the health of local children by supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
6/10/15 - As young children run, climb and swing on the new playground equipment and tree houses at Bullitt Park, their laughter and squeals of joy are all anyone needs to see and hear to know the updated look of this recreational facility has accomplished its goal. The overhaul was paid for by a $200,000 grant from the Lonesome Pine Hospital Community Fund.
6/10/15 - Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System officials are creating four community work groups designed to provide public input as the two organizations continue to explore the creation of a new, integrated and locally governed entity. Through the website, BecomingBetterTogether.org, the health systems are requesting participation in the work groups from the community as well as subject matter experts such as nurses and other health professionals, doctors, public health officials and community advocates.
6/3/15 - Marsh Regional will express its gratitude to area blood donors with a special event held June 12 in Kingsport and Bristol. In honor of World Blood Donor Day, Marsh Regional will provide food, door prizes and games.
6/2/15 - The nonprofit National Rural Health Association recently selected Hancock County Hospital to receive a best practice designation for patient satisfaction. Hancock County was one of 20 critical access hospitals in the country, and the only one in Tennessee and Virginia, to earn this elite position.
5/28/15 - Wellmont Diabetes Treatment Centers, a leader in generating awareness of this disease and helping people who have been diagnosed effectively manage their condition, has received another four-year certificate of recognition from the American Diabetes Association.
