• Jake and Gracie Crawford, NICU patients

  •  Jake and Gracie

Jake Crawford was born Jan. 9, 2001, weighing 1 pound, 15 ounces. His younger sister, Gracie, was born Jan. 25, 2002, weighing 1 pound and 9 ounces.

Jake, though tiny, showed steady signs of improvement. However, Gracie's journey one year later was much more complicated. In addition to her small size, a bleed in her brain was discovered the day after she was born. Despite that diagnosis, Gracie triumphed.

After six months in the hospital, Gracie came home in May 2002. Because of the insight of the doctors in Gracie's first days of treatment, she has had great success and, along with her brother, is a happy, healthy child.

"We may not have looked like much when we were born, but look at how far we've come thanks to the NICU."
