    Christopher tells his story:

My fitness journey has had its ups and downs, but back in November 2016, I decided to take a real look into my health. At the time, I had a high BMI, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

I began simply with in the LiveWell challenge to participate in Healthy Kingsport’s Walk Across Tennessee program. I started with the goal set by Wellmont to walk 7,000 steps per day, eventually increasing it to 10,000 and then to 13,000. I could tell the walking was making a difference, but I decided I needed a new goal that would stretch me to reach a much healthier me.

That’s when I set a far out goal of something on my bucket list: to complete an IRONMAN.

An IRONMAN distance triathlon consists of swimming 2.4 miles, biking 114 miles and running 24.2 miles. While training, I set several smaller benchmarks for myself – one being to complete a half IRONMAN, which I successfully did May 21, 2017. It consisted of swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles and running 13.1 miles.

My finish time was 6 hours, 10 minutes and 44 seconds. I will complete several other smaller races between this summer and September, but even with all the training, I am very excited about the positive effects it is having on my health.

So far in my fitness journey, I have lost 23 pounds and hope to lose 40 more. Already my BMI, cholesterol and blood pressure are trending downward to the normal level.

I am super excited about reaching the big day in September for the full IRONMAN competition.

I am even more excited to partner with Team Challenge for this event and help raise $5,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. The funds raised go directly to the foundation, and anyone’s gift of support is a tax deduction. Those who help can feel proud knowing they helped find a cure and spurn me on to the finish line.
