For Cheryl Kilbourne, the wake-up call to lose weight came in the most unlikely of places – an amusement park.
“I was told I couldn’t ride a roller coaster,” Cheryl said. “They told
me I was too big, that the bar wouldn’t be able to go across my lap.
That was when I realized something had to change.”
Cheryl met with her doctor, who advised weight-loss surgery at Holston
Valley Medical Center. After attending the hospital’s weight-loss
classes, she qualified for a gastric bypass surgery, which was performed on Feb. 15, 2008.
“The surgery was on my husband’s birthday, but I’m really the one who got a gift,” she said. “I got my life back.”
“I have so much energy now. Before my surgery, I could sleep all day,
every day. But now, I wake up and I want to go walking, I want to work
in the garden. It’s the best feeling, to be able to play with my
grandkids and be active.”
“If I had to do it over again, I’d do the surgery much earlier. I had no
idea my life could change so much, that I’d feel so great.”
The Comprehensive Weight Management Center has been designated by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
