Diana Blair had struggled with her weight since she was a teenager. As she grew older, the weight began to take a toll on her body. Her joints ached, her blood pressure increased and she developed diabetes.
“It literally became a matter of life or death,” Diana said. “I knew that my lifespan was being decreased because of my weight. I have four beautiful nieces, and I want to be around to see them get married and have children of their own.
“I needed to make a change.”
Diana’s laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery was just one piece of her weight loss journey.
“It takes a commitment to a healthy diet and regular exercise,” she said. “It’s a total lifestyle change. But my overall life has improved dramatically.”
“I love feeling better and looking better. There are people I’ve known for years who don’t recognize me until I speak. I also love being able to go shopping and buy ‘regular-sized’ clothes.”
“Being consistent. The surgery isn’t a magic pill – if you aren’t committed to a healthy lifestyle, that weight can creep back. You need stay focused on living a healthy life.”
“Be patient. Any healthy weight loss program takes time. But if you’re committed to the program, you will reach your goal.”
