Janet Cody knows exactly what weight loss patients are going through. She opted for laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery in 2005 and had a revision surgery in 2010 for a gastric sleeve.
“It has changed my life,” Janet said. “If I had the opportunity to do it over again tomorrow, I would.”
What is most different about your life now?
“My self image is so much better. I wouldn’t go see my daughter cheer in high school because I was afraid people would make fun of her for having a fat mom. I felt like people were staring at me. They probably weren’t, but it’s how I felt.”
What has helped you the most in your weight loss journey?
“You’ve got to make the decision to take charge of your life. If you know you’re going to eat something late at night, don’t even put it in your grocery buggy.”
What advice do you give others struggling with their weight?
“Hold your head up. You’re just as good as anyone else, heavy or not. But this is a way for you to feel better. It has given my life new meaning.”
