Level One Trauma Center
Two decades ago, Kingsport's Holston Valley Medical Center established the region's first Level I Trauma Center via specialized medical helicopter such as Med-Flight II and Wellmont One or ambulances operated by regional emergency medical services. As part of our commitment to service excellence and innovation, our Trauma Center offers:
- Full diagnostic radiology services, including a computed tomography (CT) and a StatScan scanner in the trauma center
- Subspecialty surgical care in a variety of disciplines such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and urology
- 24-hour availability of surgery suite for trauma cases
- Laboratory services
- Hazardous materials decontamination facilities
- Outpatient follow-up and treatment by specialists
- Rehabilitative services
- A trauma registry to plot the cause, treatment and outcome of every case
Level I is the highest status awarded to a Trauma Center. That means we have a trauma physician in the emergency room at all times and provide access to relevant medical specialties and subspecialties around the clock, with subspecialty care available 24 hours a day.
