Dr. Kelly Oggero Joins Wellmont Medical Associates Surgery, Performs Cases At Holston Valley
Dr. Kelly Oggero, who has performed high-caliber surgeries for about 25 years, has joined Wellmont Medical Associates Surgery.
Dr. Oggero is a general surgeon who will improve patients' lives at Holston Valley Medical Center. Cases he will handle include cancers of the breast and gastrointestinal tract, gallbladder disease, hernias and reflux disease.
"Patients will benefit from everything that I have assimilated in clinical knowledge, but they will also get honest, clear and concise communication from me," Dr. Oggero said. "This type of communication is what I most value in all relationships, and I think everyone is best served by that approach."
His faith also plays a major role in his life, and he considers himself a servant of God who has been empowered to help others.
"The opportunities to serve and extend His healing ministry are present every day," Dr. Oggero said. "The practice of medicine and surgery is a gift Christ bestowed on me to do His will. My commitment is to do my very best - every day."
Dr. Oggero will partner with Dr. Mark Kadowaki to provide compassionate, high-quality care at Holston Valley. The two physicians are medical doctors with an office at 111 W. Stone Drive, Suite 310, in the Medical Office Plaza on the Eastman Outpatient Campus.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in biology from Texas A&M University, Dr. Oggero graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He then completed an internship, residency and research fellowship at that medical school and received training at world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center. Since 1991, he performed surgeries at multiple hospitals in the Houston area, most recently with MD Anderson in Nassau Bay, Texas.
Early in his life, Dr. Oggero wanted to be a family physician. He followed this path until he was a senior medical student and concluded he preferred to be a specialist, leading to his becoming a surgeon.
Holston Valley provides an excellent setting for surgeons with enhanced operating rooms constructed during the Project Platinum initiative.
Dr. Oggero relocated to Northeast Tennessee because he wanted to return to a teaching environment. In his position, he will work with surgical residents affiliated with the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University, as well as residents of Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also wanted to move his family from a large metropolitan area and serve as an integrated physician with an established health system.
Dr. Stephen Combs, a medical doctor and chief executive medical officer of Wellmont Medical Associates, said Dr. Oggero brings an outstanding skill set to Holston Valley.
"We are pleased to add a physician with such impressive credentials and insight to our surgical team," Dr. Combs said. "He and Dr. Kadowaki will work seamlessly with each other and our other physicians to deliver remarkable care to patients. They are tremendous assets for patients who entrust their surgery to Kingsport's flagship hospital."
Virginia Frank, Holston Valley's president, said Dr. Ogerro is a great addition to the medical staff.
"Dr. Oggero has served with distinction during his extensive career and will help us continue our tradition of excellence," Frank said. "All our physicians have played an essential role in our success, including being named one of the three best hospitals in Tennessee by a national publication. We are not interested in resting on our laurels, and the addition of Dr. Oggero will show the community that our commitment to excellence never ends."
Dr. Oggero is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
